Pamella Roland S/S 2012 : Frame Worthy!

During fashion week after several days of insanity and practically living on the New Jersey transit and train, I rushed to upload pictures and without verifying if everything was done completely I erased my memory card and went back to the tents. Sadly one of the shows that didn't upload was the Pamella Roland presentation. Everything from the clothes to the picture I took with Nigel Barker (Judge on America's Next Top Model) and his wife, and several other celebrities..all gone!
After searching my phone I found one picture and it was of the piece that I found exemplified the story and the entire collection. Though the entire collection was stunning, I felt drawn to the glitz of the sequins and how it was applied skillfully like splashes of paint unto a textile canvas. Then, it all made sense, the story of the collection was made cohesive with the clothes being presented through picture frames because the clothes themselves were a magnificent work of art. Literally, the mermaid cut dresses were stunningly covered in sequins ranging from all colors of the turquois sea, or in alternating black and white.
It's definitely a shame that I wiped out all my pictures of the presentation, and I hope to get another chance during F/W 2012.

                            

Shamask S/S 2012 :

Shamask Returns to the Tents!!!





Fluid silhouettes and impeccable pleating details usher in the return of Shamask to New York Fashion Week and the coveted tents. With vivid color blocking colors in rich fabrics each ensemble is a fine example of luxurious spring and summer wear, a must have for any 'Hamptons' regular, or on a holiday to Saint Tropez. There is a casual chicness in the pieces and wearability is a smart direction where many designers can never pass specially during a down turn economy. Although Shamask delivers outstanding cuts and tailoring, with fluid jackets juxtaposed with structured pieces, everything still transitions from runway to everyday easily and still look high end.



Elene Cassis S/S 2012: Classic Nostalgia

            

Inspired by the Greek Key, Elene Cassis Spring / Summer 2012 is reminiscent of the 60's but with a wonderful modern edge. The silhouettes are romantically nostalgic of some of the wardrobe First Lady Jackie Kennedy O' wore during her media and political appearances. Elene Cassis captured the understated elegance that Jackie O was known for. Several pieces were definitely geared towards the 'modern, powerful, career driven, independent' woman; a woman who can run a Fortune 500 company, but at the end of the day look chic as she shops Madison Avenue. Clean structured silhouettes with shorter hemlines juxtapose career and sexy amazingly.

Lela Rose S/S 2012: Splashes of Beauty

Vibrant, feminine, and yet powerful are all quintessential descriptions for designer Lela Rose. Inspired by the "Neon Graveyard" ( unrestored and broken neon signs that fill the Las Vegas and Coney Island landscape), Lela Rose Spring / Summer 2012 collection diffused some of the brightest neon colors into a soft pastel like hue to simulate how neons would fade overtime. Similar to a finely crafted painting, silks, organza, tulle, and cottons were all the canvases taking in colors such as faded lemon, periwinkle, and neon tangerine. Statement pieces in the collection reflected a wonderful watercolor painting. I'm particularly in love with the khaki double faced jacket interior lined in the neon orange and paired with a blocked knit and panelled short (picture below on left). Certainly, the collection was a wonderful marriage of soft faded hues and electrifying neons, a great story of what happens to the 'new' as time passes- all the while telling a wonderful story. 

 

Yigal Azrouel S/S 2012: Men's Collection

FAVORITE ENSEMBLE OF THE S/S 2012 COLLECTION

Definitely a continuing trend: denim jacket with leather sleeves

Yigal Azrouel S/S 2012 Menswear Collection explores utility with a whole new take, combining lightweight fabrics, graphic design, and sporty details. The collection focused on making pieces lightweight for summer but without sacrificing amazing and luxurious fabrics like wool, leather, and cotton twill. This season, the proportions and silhouettes were more relaxed and definitely youthful, but never losing any sophistication. I can't help but talk about my favorite piece of the entire collection (first photo) the distressed gray leather jacket paired with cream cotton twill drawsting pants. Something about the pieces speaks casual sophistication, an ensemble that can go from daytime wear, and directly into a fun night at a chic club or lounge. Overall, the entire collection was definetly about being bold but naturally 'cool' : effortless chic!

MATAANO S/S 2012: Vibrant Tropical

Inspired by their visit to the island of St. Lucia, Mataano's designers used contemporary comfortable silhouettes with a nod to the 60's and 70's era. An explosion of vibrant colors and tropical prints ruled the Spring / Summer 2012 runway. I was particularly taken back, considering I was born in the islands. This collection took me back to a more laid back 'island' lifestyle, when people took the time to admire the flora all around and take time out of their day to enjoy the environment and the people- this collection exemplifies such an ease in life. Mataano's pallette this season simply brings a smile to one's face.
